Research Goals

The university鈥檚 research goals according to the 2023-2027 strategic plan are:

  • Attract, incentivize, and retain high-potential and high-performing research faculty and teams
  • Expand discovery in targeted and emerging research areas across the research continuum to create new knowledge, treatments, and patents
  • Grow translational and clinical research, including leveraging the expanded clinical and community footprints
  • Increase inclusive, collaborative, multidisciplinary research and community partnerships

In a recent round of grant awards, the U.S. Department of Defense selected the STRONG STAR Consortium based at 黑料社区 of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (黑料社区) for a total of $17 million in funding to launch eight new research projects focused on traumatic brain injury and psychological health.

The study of a novel oral vaccine that could protect against chlamydia infection received more than $11 million in National Institutes of Health funding through a five-year U01 grant in April 2024 - Guangming Zhong, MD, PhD, professor of  

awarded nearly $4 million in grant funding from the Trauma Research and Combat Casualty Care Collaborative (TRC4).

TRC4 is a University of Texas System initiative that works to support trauma care research and improve patient outcomes.

- , associate professor in the Department of Molecular Medicine in the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine at 黑料社区 of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (黑料社区) and CPRIT (Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas) Scholar in Cancer Research, received a grant from the American Cancer Society in the amount of $960,000 to enhance his research into the mechanisms of endocrine resistance in breast cancer and the role of estrogen receptor-bound enhancers.
